How we help

Business success is often about the real skill of recognising and solving future problems or needs. This is difficult. In the case of family businesses, it is easier. By looking at the demographics and relationships within a family and through understanding individual aspirations and concerns, we are able to predict future problems and prepare for them by putting in place solid family and business governance. This lies at the heart of our approach. We believe in listening, collaboration and support and live by the old adage that prevention is better than cure.

We are highly sensitive and aware that each family business situation is unique. For this reason, we do not provide a cookie cutter approach and work with you to tailor our approach and services to meet your particular needs.

When approaching any engagement, we take the time to meet with each family member on a private and confidential basis. This allows us to understand the different perspectives at play and also means that rather than act for one particular person, we act in the best interests of the family and business as a whole. This is key to our ability to act independently and pivotal to the success of our work.

Our process provides safe settings within which the whole family can untangle their issues and work together to create the right structure for their future needs.

Creating a structure to which everyone has contributed means that more people will feel it takes their view into account. This inclusive approach in turn means that any decisions made will have a much better chance of standing the test of time.

We see our role as moving between facilitator and advisor. We facilitate discussions, help you to work out differences and also give best practice advice based on our experience. During our work with you, we help you clarify your thoughts, challenge them and test the alternatives. We find that this allows us to develop creative and pragmatic solutions which best fit your circumstances.

We cherish long term relationships. That said, it is not our wish that you become dependent on us. We will therefore work with you to transfer the knowledge, skills and capabilities we have built up over the years so that you can successfully manage the challenges that you face as a family business on your own.
